What can an IPL photofacial treat?

Skin conditions like the ones mentioned above often develop due to excess exposure to the sun, general aging, and active lifestyles. Typically, the chest, shoulders, face, back of the hands, and the neck are exposed to the damaging effects of sunlight more often. IPL photofacial BroadBand Light can treat the following conditions:

  • Uneven skin texture
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Vascular lesions
  • Acne
  • Loose/sagging skin
  • Age spots
  • Birthmarks
  • Sun damage
  • Loose skin
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Freckles
  • Dull skin
  • Broken capillaries
  • Facial veins
  • Rosacea and redness
  • Unwanted hair growth
  • Brown spots
  • Spider veins
  • Discolored scarring
  • Skin blotches
  • Large pores
  • Other skin lesions

How BroadBand Light works

Gradually, the IPL photofacial delivers light energy that heats the skin’s upper layers. This heat stimulates the skin to regenerate new collagen, which creates firmer and more youthful-looking skin. Colors are blended and the skin is smoothed, restoring skin to its natural, youthful appearance so that patients are able to enjoy younger, vibrant skin after the procedure.

What happens during the procedure?

Your face will be cleansed and prepped, and you’ll be given safety glasses to wear during the procedure. This will keep your eyes protected. Dr. Maercks may also apply a topical anesthetic and a gel or cream to cool your skin. A handheld device is scanned across the damaged area of the skin, delivering pulses of light into the deep layers of the skin. During treatment, you may feel a warm, snapping sensation as the light hits certain areas of your skin. Procedure length varies by patient, but is rarely longer than half an hour. Patients may require more than one treatment, depending on the desired results. Dr. Maercks will discuss the specifics of your procedure with you during your consultation.

Recovery and results

You may notice some redness on the skin that will fade after a few hours. You may also notice a flaking off or fading of the skin where pigmented lesions were treated. Over the course of the next week or so, you’ll notice that your skin is much softer and has a healthy glow for the next few weeks, be very mindful of too much sun exposure.

FAQ

How much does an IPL photofacial in Miami cost?

The average cost of an IPL photofacial at The Maercks Institute is from $1,250.

How often will I need IPL photofacial treatments?

Every patient is different, with different skin conditions and different goals. During your consultation with Dr. Maercks, he will be able to tell you how many treatments you’ll need after assessing your skin. In general, we recommend 3 to 5 treatments spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart, with maintenance treatments 2 to 3 times a year.

Can I have an IPL photofacial if my skin has been tanned?

No. You shouldn’t have a tan when having BBL therapy done. This includes tanning sprays and lotions as well. It’s also important that you have not been exposed to the sun for extended periods of time within the last month.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my IPL photofacial treatment?

As mentioned above, you should avoid extended sun exposure and not have tanned skin when you are planning an IPL photofacial treatment. Avoid any antibiotics and/or photosensitizing medications that make you sensitive to the sun. Additionally, you should stop applying Retin-A or retinol products to the skin for one week before an IPL photofacial.
