Up to 60% of adolescent males have gynecomastia, and approximately 65% of adult men (National Institutes of Health). This condition can take a hard toll on an individual’s self-esteem, especially in younger years. This is why Dr. Maercks is happy to correct this issue for his patients with male breast surgery.
Can teenagers get male breast reduction?
Yes, male teenagers can undergo male breast reduction — and it can greatly improve their confidence. However, it’s important to be aware that teenage males may very well outgrow gynecomastia. You should get the opinion of your family doctor before proceeding with male breast reduction, and typically patients should be at least 18 years old when considering the procedure. In addition, every patient is different and will have different results. And even if results from the surgery are excellent, patients may need to have the procedure performed again later in life if the breast tissue continues to develop as they become older.
