What is a liquid facelift?
A liquid facelift (also called a “non-surgical facelift”) uses a variety of cosmetic injectables and sometimes fat transfer to achieve similar results as a traditional facelift. This means providing lift, volume, and smoothness to targeted areas of the face to create a more attractive and youthful appearance. Dr. Maercks formulates the ideal combination of dermal fillers for your unique needs and goals, offering effective yet subtle changes to enhance your natural features while minimizing the signs of age. Areas that can be addressed include the eyes, the brow area, cheeks, jowls, temples, and the area between the nose and the mouth.
Changes in the face that develop with age
- Loss of collagen and elastin proteins (results in skin sagging and laxity)
- Loss of youthful volume and plumpness
- Loss of bone in the face (particularly the eye socket and jawbone)
What are the benefits of a non-surgical facelift?
- No anesthesia, incisions, or scarring
- Minimal downtime and side effects
- Short, convenient treatment time
- Patients can return to regular day immediately
- Natural-looking results
- Cost-effective
- Boosted self-esteem and confidence
Goals of a liquid facelift
- Volumize the temples, lips, and/or cheek area
- Smooth wrinkles, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and “smoker’s lines”
- Improve the appearance of jowls
- Improve facial contour
- Correct eye bags and hollows
- Lift cheeks and mid-face to reduce folds
- Smooth away creases around the eyes
- Restore plumpness to the skin
The liquid facelift procedure

A liquid facelift is done in the comfort of our offices and takes anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. During your consultation, Dr. Maercks will assess your face, and he will discuss your aesthetic concerns and personal goals for the procedure.
He will then explain which dermal fillers will be used and if fat transfer is recommended. On the day of your treatment, your skin will be cleansed and prepped, and Dr. Maercks will inject the targeted areas of your face, just underneath the skin. Dr. Maercks prefers to use a cannula instead of a needle in certain areas of the face to prevent significant bruising.
My existing profile was uneven and unbalanced, and Dr. Maercks gave me a pretty “liquid facelift” in about 45 minutes. In the beginning, I didn’t want to do my eye area, but at his recommendation, I did, and I’m SO happy I listened to him! Only two weeks post procedure and I had a client tell me I look 23 (I’m 37).
Recovery and results
The majority of patients return to their normal activities a day after their liquid facelift (except for exercise, sun exposure, and tanning which can be resumed in one week). As with any injectable treatment, slight bruising and swelling may develop around the injection site for a few days.
To help minimize the risk of these side effects, you can stop taking blood-thinning medications (ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil supplements, St. John’s wort, etc.) for a week before the procedure. Results are visible almost immediately following treatment and may last up to two years depending on what type of fillers were chosen. Many patients also choose to have touch-up treatments to prolong the results.
