Most of the time we use lip fillers, but sometimes collagen or implants are used.
Expectations
To numb the area, Dr. Maercks may use numbing cream or a dental block. Once numb, the lips will be injected with filler. Dr. Maercks takes special care to preserve the natural look of the lips while filling and contouring. After the injection, the area is massaged to smooth out the product and distribute it evenly.
Injections may be made in more than one area. Dr. Maercks will choose the injection site based on the individual patient, although common spots for injection are the “red line” (where the dry and wet area of the lips meet) or the “white roll” (under the nose where the skin meets the lip).
Hyaluronic acid lip fillers
Hyaluronic acid lip fillers provide excellent lip shape and volume and are very customizable. These products add volume, contour, and moisture to the lips to achieve a fuller, more attractive appearance and feel.

Recovery and results
Swelling, numbness, and mild discomfort are common for several hours after receiving lip fillers. Please follow any instructions that we give you to avoid complications, and to ensure the best possible results.
Movement of the area should be minimized, and bruising may last for one week after treatment. Final results are noticeable within 2 to 3 days, and your results should last for anywhere from 3 to 6 months.
Lip implants
Lip implants are a more permanent solution than lip fillers. Made of either soft solid silicone or expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, lip implants are typically placed using tiny incisions made inside the corners of the mouth. When done properly, lip implants create a very natural look and feel, and can be customized to your desired goals. Those who are interested in getting lip implants in Miami should have fairly symmetrical lips, as well as enough lip tissue to work with the implant. Although the lip implant procedure is a surgery, there is very minimal downtime — typically only about three days. However, you will need to avoid pressure around the lips for about two weeks after the procedure.
Lip lift
Although a lip lift is frequently confused with lip fillers, they are different procedures. A lip lift is a surgical treatment in which the skin between the nose and the upper lip is raised to reveal more of the top lip, achieving a fuller and poutier appearance. A lip lift is permanent, while lip fillers are not, so for those who do not want touch-ups every several months, a lip lift or lip implant may be a better option. There is some recovery time with a lip lift, and patients may need about a week of downtime. Results will become visible approximately six weeks after treatment.
