Laser Skin Resurfacing – MicroLaserPeel

Average Cost: From $1,200-$5,500

If you want a more youthful, smoother face, then come to The Maercks Institute for MicroLaserPeel. Dr. Maercks uses a laser to treat conditions that affect the top layer of the skin. During the procedure, the damaged skin is removed and the texture is improved for a younger appearance. Dr. Maercks performs this procedure in the office, and tailors each treatment to the individual patient to ensure that the desired outcome is reached.

Laser skin resurfacing is most often used to treat the neck and face, although many patients also require treatment on the hands and chest. This procedure is used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Sun damage or freckles
  • Scars
  • Keratosis
  • Mild wrinkles
  • Pigment irregularities

Dr. Maercks uses the laser beam to remove a very thin layer of old, damaged skin by scanning over the affected area. This removes damaged cells that make the skin look aged and tired. After the laser treatment, fresh skin cells grow and cover the treated area with younger, healthier-looking skin.

What to Expect

MicroLaserPeel only takes about 15-30 minutes in our office. Patients can expect very little pain, although a topical numbing cream can be used if the patient suffers from discomfort in areas that must be treated at a deeper level. Dr. Maercks will determine exactly how many treatments each patient needs based on the desired results from the procedure.

After treatment, the skin may have a “frosty” look that will fade within several days of treatment. Patients may also notice some redness, burning and mild swelling that should fade quickly.

Fractional Resurfacing – ProFractional Therapy

ProFractional Therapy is used to improve the overall appearance of the skin, and is used to treat areas of skin all over the body.

This treatment is known as a “fractionated” laser resurfacing, as only portions of the body are treated during each session. As a fraction of the skin is treated with the laser, the affected area promotes rapid tissue growth, and the skin produces collaged, adding resilience and firmness to the skin in the treated areas.

What to Expect

The Procedure only takes about 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. The energy laser is applied to the area and snapping sounds may be heard in rapid succession as the area is treated. Patients may require a local anesthetic or topical numbing cream, although this procedure is widely considered completely comfortable.

After treatment, patients are given ointment and analgesics to moisten the skin and treat the mild sensation of a sunburn. Patients should avoid direct UV light until the treated area is fully healed.

Patients are typically healed and return to normal schedules after about two days. Full benefits are usually noticed after 4-6 months as the skin health and supplies additional collagen to the area.
